Many years back my well-wishers suggested me to start my own blog. But I always gave excuses saying that writing was just my way of expressing emotions very personal to me. It’s all about my perspective & my learnings about any situation or incident which I only penned down in my diary and left it there. But today, I wish to honour that suggestion of my loved ones & express myself because I believe the emotions that are running through me are nothing new to all but very common, something that every professional if not always, have asked himself/herself at least once in his/her career span/lifetime. Thereafter, I am sure they have stopped asking this question to themselves for various reasons. Yes, you got it right; the question is about value system in the corporate world, the cut throat corporate world. Recollect our school days when we had our moral science class and were taught about values, ethics and the greatness of being just, right, and morally rich. But, with time, this learning starts to contradict with the practical scenario that you face in every stage of your life. You start accepting that it is okay not to diligently follow the values that were imbibed by your parents, teachers during your growing years. You start believing that it is okay to leave it at bay because that’s required to fit yourself in this glossy and wavering crowd or else you’ll be left behind in the rat race. You then start justifying yourself about the deeds that follow one after another. And yes, you feel good because you are not alone in doing this. This is the so called culture and prevalent environment which takes a toll on your value system. With time, you start going far and come to a juncture where your conscience even stops questioning you, because you quietened it long back. I have had discussions with many professionals and they say that they are sad about the eroding value system, but they don’t have a choice. The one who dares to make a choice is either thrown out of the system or becomes stagnant in the career path. Well, I do not wish to generalise that this is the plight everywhere, but sadly most of the places. Can we not dare to make a choice & choose to live a life that really matters? Can we not be successful without compromising our value systems? I have made a choice to live by my principles; I have dared to pen it down and I am happy about it. I leave this with a thought for you to ponder upon. We can bring about the change if we strongly feel for it. We don’t need any motivation for this but just courage, determination & a clear conscience. Last but not the least, hats off to those unsung heroes who stood by the moral values & never let it erode; fought every odds that came their way & became truly successful. They have inspired many souls including me. #Gratitude & respect
Best wishes, Priyanka
